Come join us for a highly energized and fun-packed time of learning and sharing together as we experience the joy of singing! Known for his inspiring and effective manner of teaching music and singing instruction in both his choirs and the church, Leland Fleming takes great pleasure in sharing his ability, insight and love for music. He has developed techniques to engage and inspire students of all ages and backgrounds without feelings of intimidation.

What to expect when you get here.

Courses of Study:

Music theory - Students will walk away with a better understanding of how music work. Leland teaches this in an easy to understand manner!
Music appreciation
Science of music
Rhythm and pitch - We will study the basics of music including, but not limited to the Grand staff, Key Signatures, time signatures, notes and their value, musical scales, and shaped-notes.
Solfège Singing (including shaped-notes) - Leland will walk the students methodically through the building blocks of Sol Fege singing. You will be able to read the music on new and unfamiliar songs following this instruction.
Sight-singing and ear training - We will work together to learn the technique of learning new and unfamiliar songs. We will teach shaped notes, as well as lines and spaces.
Study of harmony and singing in harmony - Students will learn about chord structure and harmony basics including major and minor thirds, fifths and progressions.
Vocal training and technique - We will study basic vocal technique to help the student sing with better quality while protecting his/her voice.
Song leading - Students will learn how to correctly and effectively lead a congregation in singing. The study of directing patterns, correctly pitching a song and other techniques that will inspire the congregation to follow,
New songs - One of the most enjoyable aspects of our time together is learning all the new songs. Students will be equipped to teach new songs to their home congregations.
Small group singing - During the week, time will be allotted to form groups, practice and prepare for a presentation on Friday evening. Leland will assist with parts and creative ideas to help make it a more enjoyable experience.
Worship song preparation - Students will be taught how to prepare effective and appropriate song selections for worship. We will discuss the variety of styles and messages of songs, learning how to best implement them into a collection that both encourages the congregation and praise the Lord appropriately.
Hymn Writing, Composition and Arranging - We will study what makes a hymn successful as well as how to structure a song, both with lyrics and music. If you have created songs, but don't know how to put them down on paper, this is for you.
